Tomono Shuzo

History and Story

Tomono Shuzo is a family-run sake brewery founded in 1901 in Saku, within Nagano Prefecture. The region’s harsh winters and clean groundwater create excellent conditions for sake brewing. The brewery uses locally grown sake rice, including Hitogokochi from Saku and Miyama Nishiki from Nagano farmers, combined with subsoil water from the Yatsugatake Mountains. Tomono Shuzo focuses on producing elegant, clean, and balanced sake that expresses the character of Nagano’s ingredients and climate. Its main brands include Sawanohana, the traditional flagship label, and Beau Michelle, a modern, fruit-forward style designed for easy drinking and broader appeal.
