Seto Shuzo

History and Story

Seto Shuzo is a historic sake brewery in Kaisei Town, Kanagawa, founded in 1865 and deeply connected to the rural Ashigara Plain, an area known for abundant water and rice cultivation. Although the brewery stopped production in 1980 due to staffing difficulties, it was revived in 2018 under new leadership with the goal of preserving traditional sake-making and supporting the local community and economy. Seto Shuzo produces several sake lines, including Sakatanishiki, Ashigarigo, and Setoichi, often using locally grown rice and unique yeast sources.

Today, the brewery has gained international recognition, winning numerous awards and rankings, while also offering tours, tastings, and cultural experiences that connect visitors to Japanese tradition and the natural environment.
